My Events Internship 2016-2017

So at the beginning of second year half of my friends were scouring sites such as rate my placement and indeed for the perfect work experience opportunity to arise. At this point I had come straight out of hospital after an eventful summer and was adjusting back into the university lifestyle. If I'm honest the thought of undertaking a placement in less than a years time hadn't even crossed my mind.

As the academic year became well underway I started thinking more about what's on my CV and my employability prospects when I finally graduate. I still wasn't 100% sure if I was ready to take a year out of university for a full time work position so I began my search for the perfect summer internship.

The opportunity then arose for a years placement as the new Events Intern with The Walt Disney Company. This was circulated by my university's Business School Employability Office and I thought this is simply an opportunity you couldn't pass up! Of course I applied, writing my cover letter explaining the 101 reasons why I would be right for the role... and luckily for me I was offered an interview at the head office in Hammersmith just a week later!

The task for the interview was great fun and really allowed you to get creative and use your imagination. This was the brief:

"Beauty & the Beast is due for release in 2017.
We would like to plan an event for our retailers and licensees this summer to generate further excitement for the film.
Please create a short 5-10 minute presentation to show us ideas you have for this event and how you would approach the organisation for this. What type of event do you think would help us to achieve our goal?

There is no set budget and definitely no right or wrong answers. We just want to see your creativity, combined with your understanding for managing an event."

To the right you will find a handful of screenshots from my presentation!

I must've impressed the interviewing panel because here I am now, The Walt Disney Company's Events Intern 2016-2017! And only 5 weeks in, I'm having the most incredible time. Even in just a short time frame I've learnt so much already, been lucky enough to meet some truly inspirational people and of course I'm well underway with planning for several different events!

I'll be sure to keep you posted on the latest events I'm organising while on placement and  all the other little things I get up to while out on the job!

Thanks for reading!
