TRAVEL PLANNING - MY TOP 5 DESTINATIONS TO VISIT
If there's anything I love more than events it's got to be travel... I have a serious case of the travel bug and absolutely live for a good vacation!
In the last 3 years I've been lucky enough to visit:
I wanted to write a post in the hopes of providing a bit of travel inspiration and fun, but also to share with you my list of countries I am desperate to tick off my 'must visit' list and why!
I'm excited to look back in 3-5 years time and see how many I've actually managed to get to and explore.
1. OSLO
After an incredible spontaneous trip to Copenhagen this January with my bestie - B - I am desperate to explore more of Scandinavia. I found myself deep in a Instagram hole over the last couple of weeks stalking all of the Norwegian tourism instagram accounts, falling more and more in love with the scenery, towns and country as a whole.
@norge @lofoten @oslo @bergen
Norway may be renown for being a more expensive European destination but I am determined to make Oslo one of my first adventures of 2019 and embrace a more scandi way of life!
2. AMSTERDAM
I've previously visited Amsterdam back in 2015 whilst inter-railing around Europe after my first year of university. However only having stopped there for a couple of nights I've realised how little of The Netherlands I've actually seen and how much I missed in Amsterdam itself. I live for a good city break so would love to head back in 2019 if I can find time for a long weekend away.
I also have to admit it's not just the sightseeing and tourist hot spots I'd like to go back for to get ticked off my bucket list - I've recently come across some insane restaurants and bakeries on instagram which I NEED to check out. Yes, that's right - it's not a want, it's a need...
3. MIAMI
I loooove the states and to be able to visit all 52 is at the top of my lifetime bucket list. Although I've ticked off Florida already with a classic Disney family trip when I was younger I'm desperate to make a trip to Miami, spend a day shopping in all the malls until my feet can't carry me any longer, road trip down to Key West for a couple of nights, take a day trip to the Bahamas and visit the Everglades!
I've got my list and my Lonely Planet guide, I just need to get planning!
I had thought I might have been able to make it over to Miami this year but I've had a reality check and unfortunately this girls got a student overdraft to pay off first. Here's hoping for a stateside summer adventure in 2019.
4. SINGAPORE
A friend from school has also recently come back from 4 months around Asia, Australia and New Zealand and has been filling me in on all her travel adventures but one place she couldn't stop raving about was Singapore - she had me sold within the first 5 minutes!
I've not ventured very far East but I am determined for that to be my 2019/2020 travel goal.
I'm lucky enough to have been across Europe and America but the furthest East I've been is Egypt. I always seem to be time travelling backwards...
Based on Soph's recommendations and after doing my own research I've got my Singapore bucket list at the ready:
- GARDENS BY THE BAY
- MARINA BAY SANDS
- UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
- NATIONAL ORCHID GARDEN
- MOUNT FABER/SINGAPORE CABLE CAR FROM MOUNT FABER TO THE ISLAND OF SENTOSA
- SILOSO BEACH
- CHINATOWN
- SHOPPING ON ORCHARD ROAD
5. JAPAN
Finally #5 - Japan and more specifically - Tokyo.
While on placement my old manager Jessie was planning a trip to Tokyo to meet her sister. She'd emigrated to Australia earlier that year and they needed a meeting point roughly halfway between them, so Tokyo seemed like the perfect destination for them to explore together.
Hearing about everything she got up to whilst she was away completely opened my eyes to a whole new destination I'd never even considered or been interested in before but now here it is in my top 5!
There are so many things to do in Japan but for me no trip would be complete without having checked out the following:
- TOKYO DISNEYLAND
- SHIBUYA CROSSING
- JAPANESE CHERRY BLOSSOM IN THE SPRING
- TOKYO NATIONAL MUSEUM - UNEYO PARK
- SUMO WRESTLING MATCH
- ODABIA ARTIFICIAL ISLAND
- HARAJUKU DISTRICT
- TOKYO TOWER
- TOKYO SKYTREE
- MOUNT TAKAO
- MOUNT FUJI
- AND OF COURSE, DO ALLLLL OF THE STATIONERY SHOPPING
If money was no object I'd be off around the world in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I'm still paying off the last of my big Hawaiian adventure and as I said before I've got a nice big student overdraft to clear this year too! But hey, you can't stop a girl from dreaming!
If I were to win the lottery tomorrow I'm not sure I'd know where to book flights to first! Even narrowing down my top 5 to visit was a struggle.
If you have any great recommendations for any of the above you must let me know. I am a huge fan of the Lonely Planet books and am slowly growing a collection of all their destination pocket guides but it's always good to hear from someone who's visited a must-see spot themselves!
